48 Hours in San Antonio, TX
I think it’s safe to say that if you live or have ever lived in Texas, you’ve visited San Antonio. And if you don’t live in Texas or haven’t visited, this is your sign to come on down here! It’s a classic Texas getaway city with something for everyone to enjoy! My family would visit San Antonio all the time growing up, so I have lots of special memories that I love to reminisce on when I’m there. My husband has never been (he’s only lived in Texas for one year so he doesn’t count lol) so I thought it would be the perfect mini getaway to celebrate our one year anniversary a few weeks ago. And even though I’ve been to San Antonio more times than I can remember, we had the most amazing time and are already looking forward to going back. Here’s a little recap of our weekend with some recommendations you can save for your next trip!
Friday
We left Dallas on Friday afternoon and got to San Antonio around 7 pm. I am a stopper and love to stop for drinks, snacks, and restroom breaks lol, so it took a little longer than the 4.5 hours it was supposed to. We checked in to the Grand Hyatt on the Riverwalk, which we loved, and then set off to stroll around. There are tons of restaurants on the Riverwalk, but unfortunately for me, my husband is not the biggest fan of Mexcian food -_- ( I wish I had known this before we got married), so we opted for Landry’s seafood. It was ok-the staff was pretty rude and slow, and the food was lacking in flavor, so I wouldn’t recommend it. After dinner we strolled around the Riverwalk some more and then decided to go up to the street level and take a romantic ride in a horse drawn carriage-fun, but overpriced for the short ride we got.

Saturday
We started our Saturday morning with a nice stroll on the Riverwalk-it’s so much more peaceful in the early morning! I wanted to try Domingo Restaurante for brunch, but it had a 45 minute wait, so we put our names down and took the Riverwalk boat tour white we waited- very touristy, but a must do while you’re here. Domingo has a super cute outdoor seating area, and just a cute vibe overall, but their brunch menu is kind of limited. I stuck with my classic avocado toast and potatoes and my husband got an omelet, which we both agreed was yummy but not worth the wait. After brunch we strolled around and bought a few souvenirs before heading up to see the Alamo. My husband didn’t know what the Alamo was, and my 7th grade history knowledge left my brain long long ago, so we snapped a few pictures and hurried along before he could ask me any more questions! Even though we had just had breakfast, I couldn’t leave without trying a croissant from La Panaderia. The line was out the door, but it moved pretty fast and the croissants were so worth it! They also serve savory breakfast items, so I would recommend trying Domingo for dinner and La Panaderia for brunch/pastries for your visit!
After our sweet treats, we got our stuff and headed to our next destination- La Cantera Resort! I’ve been wanting to visit La Cantera since last summer, and let me tell you it did not disappoint! The property is stunning, and the hill country views are even better! We splurged and booked on the adults only seventh floor, but I’m sure we would have loved any room at this resort! We felt like we had flown to a new destination and couldn’t believe this was still Texas lol. We immediately changed and headed to the pool, where we were again blown away! They have a kids pool, resort pool, and an adults only pool, and they are all beautiful. We relaxed by the adult pool and ordered some calamari and virgin pina coladas-so yummy! For dinner they have 5 different restaurants on the property, and we chose Sweetfire Kitchen which was described as “home-style” Texas cuisine. I ordered a shrimp caesar salad and my husband ordered a steak with a side of quite possibly the most delicious mashed potatoes I’ve ever had! After dinner we played a few rounds of basketball and skee-ball in the arcade, then ended our night in the (super cute) lobby playing cards.
Sunday
I LOVE booking any travel/hotels through American Express, and the 4pm late checkout we got through AMEX on this trip is probably one of my favorite perks yet! We got extra time to enjoy this beautiful property, so we started with the breakfast buffet at Sweetfire, before heading to check out their spa. A perk of the Adult 7th floor is a complimentary pass to the spa, so we took advantage of that, but quickly made our way back to the pool where we could relax together! At 4:00 sharp we reluctantly said see you later to this beautiful place, and headed out. We had plans to stop by the Natural Bridge Caverns on our way home-they look SO cool, but we decided to reminisce on our mini-moon in Austin and stop there for dinner at the same restaurant we ate at last year!
